JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown will be tabling the Wastewater Biogas Energy project for the next six months after stalling earlier this year.

In 2018, the city of Jamestown directed New Phase Energy (NPE) to conduct a feasibility study and see if a project to capture methane gas from the wastewater treatment plant would be economical.

Regnery says in light of Great River Energy electing not to purchase the City’s medium BTU biogas due to transportation and quality concerns. New Phase Energy’s report recommended the city revise its past feasibility assessment of alternative biogas flaring solutions.

The feasibility study looked at a project to capture methane gas from wastewater treatment would be economical. Right now, the city is flaring off natural gas, which instead could be used to earn money and environmental value.

Regnery stated with new industry possibly coming to the community, they may be able to explore them getting on board with the project.

The committee unanimously approved to readdress the item in July.
