JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown was busy last night as men’s and women’s basketball traveled to Northwestern and the Jimmie softball team kicked off its season on the road.
BASKETBALL:
MEN’S – NORTHWESTERN 88, #21 JAMESTOWN 77
WOMEN’S – NORTHWESTERN 83, JAMESTOWN 67
The Jimmies fell in both games on the road in Orange City last night to the Red Raiders. The Jamestown men’s team was led in scoring by sophomore Marc Kjos who had 20 points and seven assists. The Jimmies also got major production from Mason Walters and Brock Schrom, each contributing a double-double. The men’s team now sits at 18-6 overall, and 14-5 in the GPAC, tied for second.
Jamestown’s women’s team was down by two at the halftime break before Northwestern took over in the third quarter. Junior Noelle Josephson had a career-high 27 points in the loss for the Jimmies. She also recorded a double-double by snagging 10 rebounds. The Jimmies are now 14-9 on the season and 11-9 in conference play. Both the men’s and women’s teams have the next 10 days off before they round out the regular season at Dakota Wesleyan on Feb. 20.
SOFTBALL:
GAME ONE: Jamestown 9, Bemidji State 6
GAME TWO: Jamestown 3, Minnesota-Crookston 0
Kat Miska made Jimmie history in game two as she struck out 15 against Minnesota-Crookston. The junior out of Pequot Lakes only allowed one total hit in the game, which came during the first inning. In game one, Jamestown picked up 10 total hits and Morgan Geiszler hit her first home run of the season. Katie Merchant got the victory on the mound. Beginning Friday, the Jimmies will play four games in two days at the Fairfield Inn & Suites PC Dome Classic.
WRESTLING:
Jamestown women’s wrestler Rayana Sahagun was named the NAIA Wrestler of the Week after a 4-0 performance at the Grand View Open this past weekend. Sahagun, a freshman who wrestles at 109 lbs, took down three top-10 nationally-ranked opponents, including #2 Asia Ray by pinfall. She also defeated #7 Chloe Krebsbach by a 5-3 decision in the championship match.
