The Blue Jay boys hockey team clinched third place in the West Region standings with a 2-1 win over Mandan Tuesday night at Wilson arena.

Sophomore Nolan Nenow scored a shorthanded goal with 1:58 to go, and that was the difference. Nenow now has 19 goals this season.

Mandan was working a 5 on 3 power play when Nenow knocked the puck away at his own blue line and broke in alone on Mandan Senior Goalie Zane Clausen and deked him to the ice and flipped the puck over him for the game winner.

Nenow assisted on Senior Jace Thompsons 17th goal of the season three minutes into the game to give the Jays an early lead but the Braves got a shorthanded goal in the second to tie it.

The Jays outshot Mandan 49-28 and improve to 12-3.

Jamestown will travel to Bismarck Thursday to wrap up the regular season at 7:15 pm versus the Demons. Listen to the broadcast on 107.1 and newsdakota.com.

Regardless of the outcome, the Jays already know they will play a first round playoff game at home versus Bottineau-Rugby at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 16th at Wilson Arena with coverage on 107.1 and newsdakota.com.

The Blue Jay girls hockey team rallied from a 3-0 deficit and knocked off the Braves in Mandan Tuesday night 4-3 in an overtime shootout.

Jamestown trailed 3-1 heading to the third and tallied a pair of goals to force overtime. After neither team scored in OT, the game when to a shootout. Sophomore Alexis Kirkeby scored in round two and that held up as the game winner. Kirkeby also had a power play goal in the second period.

Jamestown climbs to eighth place in the standings with a 4-12 record, and that has the Jays in position to qualify for state.

Next up is a trip to Dickinson for a Friday matinee at 2:00 pm CDT.
