VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fargo Shanley pulled away from Valley City with a 34-8 game ending run to pick up a 67-40 win over the Hi-Liners in girls basketball Tuesday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
The first half was a back and forth half that saw no ties but 10 lead changes. Those lead changes were started by Tesa Olson giving the Hi-Liners a 7-6 lead with a three-pointer with 12:59 to go in the first half. The Hi-Liners biggest lead came at 20-16 on Olson’s bucket inside with 7:19 to go in the half.
The last lead change came when Shanley took the lead for good on Hannah Hoedl’s three-pointer with 6:07 to go in the half to give the Deacons a 21-20 lead. That was part of a 16-4 run by the Deacons to give them a 32-24 lead. Dylann Diegel cut the lead to 32-27 with a three-pointer with 19 seconds to go in the half.
The second half started sluggish but saw the Hi-Liners score five of the first six points of the half to make it 33-32. Brooke Eggermont hit one of two free throws to make it 33-32 with 14:17 to go in the second half. But that would be as close as the Hi-Liners would get.
The Deacons would end the game on a 34-8 run. The final margin 27, was their biggest lead of the game.
Mo Hakim led the Deacons with 15 points and nine rebounds. Lydia Mattern had 12 points and seven steals. Hannah Hoedl had 12 points and four assists.
Valley City was led by Tesa Olson with eight points. Brooke Eggermont had seven points and six rebounds. Jadyn Dieterle had seven points, five assists and three steals.
Fargo Shanley is now 9-5 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 9-6 overall. The Hi-Liners fall to 5-11 in the EDC and 7-9 overall.
Valley City will travel to Wahpeton next Tuesday for a match up with the Huskies.
