VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Alex Thornton will be headed to the Iron Range next fall to attend college and play baseball. The Valley City senior signed his letter to play for the Vikings at a signing even Wednesday afternoon at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
Thornton, who pitches and plays infield, says getting this done is a good feeling.
With the 2020 spring baseball season wiped out by COVID 19, Thornton will be getting back to the field this spring with the Hi-Liners for the first time in two years and that’s a great feeling.
Last summer for the Valley City Royals Senior Babe Ruth team, Thornton appeared in nine games with seven starts. His 37 innings were second on the team. The seven starts were a team high along with Easton Hesch. He had 23 strikeouts with a 2.65 ERA and a 3-2 record.
His 34 games played was team high. At the plate he hit .281 with two doubles, a triple and 21 rbi.
Alex is the son of Jason Thornton and Aarika Thornton. He has a younger sister, Ryanne
