FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

For the first time in program history, the University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team is the top-ranked team in the NAIA.

The Jimmies tied with Park (Mo.) for the top spot in the Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released Wednesday. UJ earned six first-place votes while Park had nine. Both teams had 571 points in the poll.

Jamestown went 18-1 overall and 15-1 in the GPAC last fall, winning its first regular-season GPAC conference championship. UJ will hold the top seed in the GPAC postseason tournament, which begins April 3.

Before the postseason begins, the Jimmies will return to action on March 9 at Valley City State (N.D.) Five games, including home dates against Bellevue (Neb.) and Dickinson State (N.D.), are on the schedule.

The number-one ranking is the first for any Jimmie team since the football team was number one in the 1997 season.
