
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The third and final day of the 2021 Boys Stutsman County Basketball tourney was held on Saturday with another four games, here are the results:
Kidder County 61 South Border 34 (7th place)
The Wolves jumped ahead early in the first quarter and the Mustangs struggled to stay close as the Wolves move on to beat SB by 27 points. KC shot 48% from the field and were led by three players in double figures, Payton Cauthon dropped in 18, Jayden Rath 17 and Jonah Harter 14. SB was led by Luke Scherbenske with eight. KC improves to 3-4 overall, SB drops to 0-7 overall.
Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 53 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 45 (5th place)
MPB led 27-19 at the break, but NGS went on a 20-3 run in the second half and pulled ahead to get their fourth victory of the season and improve to 4-6 overall. The Imperials were also 17/19 at the charity stripe. Kayden Sperle had 16 points for NGS, followed by Trenton Erbele with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Jaxcen Glatt with 10. Rylen Wick had 20 points and Josh Moser added 14 for MPB. The Thunder drop to 3-2.
Carrington 49 Griggs County-Midkota 44 (3rd place)
The Carrington Cardinals held Griggs County-Midkota (GCM) to just 3 third quarter points and defeated the Titans 49-44 to capture third place. Hudson Schmitz paced the Cardinal’s with a game high 17 points and added 9 rebounds. Hudson Topp added 10 points and Grady Shipman added 8 points for the Cards. GCM was paced by Jaxon Gronneberg with a team high 16 points and added 5 rebounds. Tanner Haugen added 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds for the Titans. Carrington improved to 3-5 overall & GCM fell to 2-5. These two teams will play again on Tuesday night in Carrington, a District 5 matchup.
Ellendale 45 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 41 (Championship)
Scott Wagner scored 15 of his game high 17 points in the second half to help lead the Ellendale Cardinals to the 2021 Stutsman County title. Wagner added a game high 15 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in the contest. Riley Thorpe added 12 points (4–three pointers) off the bench and Wyatt Henningsen added 9 points for the Cardinals. Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM), entered the contest at 6-0 and ranked number 9 in the latest N.D. class B basketball poll suffered there first loss of the season. Alex Huber packed the Rebels with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Paxton Mathern added 8 points and Dalton Madcke finished with 7 points. Ellendale improved to 5-1 & remain unbeaten against North Dakota teams (only loss was to Mobridge/Pollock S.D.).
