LISBON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City ended the first half on a 14-5 run to open up a 32-25 lead then pulled away in the second half in a 64-51 win over Lisbon Monday night in Lisbon.
Valley City took the lead for good on Peyton Zaun’s mid-range bucket late in the first half tot take a 22-20 lead. From there, the Hi-Liners outscored Lisbon 10-5 to end the quarter leading by seven.
The third quarter saw the Hi-Liners score six of the first seven points to open up a 38-26 lead. That lead would expand to 15, with Valley City up 48-33. But back-to-back three-pointers by Jayden Bittner cut the lead to nine by the end of the third quarter.
But the fourth quarter was back and forth and Valley City kept the lead between seven and 13 points the rest of the way to finish with a 64-51 win and pick up win #1 on the season.
Peyton Zaun led the way with 20 points, three steals and three blocks. Jared Eggermont had seven points and a team high eight rebounds. Calahan Burchill and Adam Bitz had seven points as well. Drew Zaun had a team high four assists along with three steals and six points.
Caleb Olson led three Broncos in double figures with 13 points. Parker Runck had 12 points and a game high nine rebounds. Bittner chipped in 11.
Valley City, now 1-4 on the year, will return to EDC action Tuesday as they host Fargo Shanley. That game can be heard on 1490AM/96.3FM KOVC and video streamed live at newsdakota.com.
