JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown Foreign Language department will be rolling out Italian 101 in the Spring.
Anyone in the community is welcome to register for the Italian 101 class; no previous foreign language experience is required. Alexandru Lefter, University of Jamestown Professor of Foreign Language, says Italian is a niche language.
Italian was recently brought to the University of Jamestown in 2018, being offered every other Spring semester. Lefter adds that this year, the course will be online.
There are many benefits to learning a foreign language including boosts in brain power, improved memory, enhanced decision making, and improvement in your primary language.
Lefter says it’s also very fun.
Lefter added that it also affords students a chance to explore a rich, cultural hertiage.
“It is also a good fit for students who have mastered the basics of another Romance language, such as Spanish or French, since it allows students to develop a comparative understanding of Romance linguistics, as well as developing proficiency in the languages.”
The course will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM to 5:15 PM online staring in January 2021. Those interested in signing up are asked to visit uj.edu or email admission@uj.edu.
