Lisbon, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Lisbon Broncos Football team showed any doubters why they deserved to be the #2 seed in the Class A State Football Playoffs Saturday with a 44 to 20 win over #3 Velva.  It was a close first half between Lisbon and Velva, with the two teams trading touchdowns on their way to a 14 to 12 halftime score.

The Broncos exploded in 2nd half outscoring Velva 30 to 8.  The Broncos defense and special teams created 2 fumbles and 2 Int’s in the 3rd and 4th quarters that continually gave the Broncos offense a short field.  Broncos coach Joe Gerding after the game said that the fumble recovery on the opening second half kickoff to Velva was huge.  The Broncos also got another huge rushing day from running back Jordan Sours.  Who is one of the best backs in the state.  Sours finished the game with 5 td’s and 290 yards rushing.

Coach Gerding talked about what it meant to him to make the title game at the FargoDome. “Making it to the Dakota Bowl is an unbelievable feeling.  These seniors have done so much for our program.  Their first year we were winless. Over the last two seasons they are 19-1.  I can’t say enough about this group of seniors and what they have done for the program.”

Next up:  Class A Championship, Lisbon vs. Langdon Area/Munich, Friday (11/13) at 8 am, FargoDome.
