JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsdakota.com) – On Tuesday the Jamestown Blue Jays dropped their final regular season match of the season, without one of their starters, and fell to the three seed line.
Mandan leapfrogged the Jays for the two seed while Century clinched the number one seed late last week. The aforementioned teams will be the favorites, with Century leading the way as the heavy favorite seeking their 7th West Region Championship in a row and their 8th in the last 9 years.
Since 1983, Century has won 12 West Region Tournaments. The dozen titles leads the way ahead of Bismarck High (8), Minot (6), and Williston (5). St. Mary’s is the last team besides Century to win a tournament championship and that was back in 2013. Jamestown, Watford City and Legacy will each be seeking their first tournament titles.
The top teams won’t have to play until the quarterfinals begin Tuesday, but the tournament begins tonight with a pair of play-in matches. 10 seed Williston travels to 7 seed Minot to play the Majettes and 9 seed Dickinson opens tournament play at 8 seed Watford City.
Tuesday’s quarterfinals schedule shapes up like this:
Match 1: Dickinson (2-16)/Watford City (5-13) winner @ Century (18-0)
Match 2: Legacy (10-8) @ Bismarck High (12-6)
Match 3: Williston (0-18)/Minot (7-11) winner @ Mandan (14-4)
Match 4: St. Mary’s (8-10) @ Jamestown (14-4) (LISTEN ON JAMESTOWN 107.1 & newsdakota.com)
Play-in, quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played at the higher seed’s home venue. The championship match and two state qualifiers will be played Saturday, November 14 at Bismarck Legacy High School.
