Oakes, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington girls volleyball team claimed the District 5 title with a come from behind 3-2 win over the top seeded and number 3 ranked team in the state Oakes (8-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12). Trailing 2-0, it appeared that the Cardinals trip to Oakes might be a quick night, as the Tornadoes destroyed the Cards in the first 2 sets. Carrington would regroup and take home the title with an exciting victory over the top seeded Tornadoes.
The Cards were paced offensively by Sydnie Grager (6′ junior middle hitter) with a team high 18 kills and Hannah Hagel (5’11 senior outside hitter) with 16 kills. Hagel added a match high 35 digs on the defensive side and a pair of service aces. Lexi Page added 10 kills for the Cards and 33 digs. Breanna Mittleider added 30 digs. Carrington connected 98% of its serves, 87 of 89 overall.
The Tornadoes, paced by senior standout Sadie Hansen (setter/outside hitter) who had a match high 20 kills and 6 service aces, also added 24 assists. Emma Muggli (6′ sophomore middle hitter) added 19 kills for Oakes. Laikyn Roney (sophomore middle blocker) added 9 kills. Abigail Cox (junior setter/outside hitter) had 5 service aces and added 20 assists. Aspen Hill (sophomore outside hitter) had 28 digs for the Tornadoes. Brynn Dethlefsen (sophomore libero) and Grace Day (senior outside hitter) added 26 digs.
Carrington will advance to the Region 3 tournament as the number 1 seed from District 5 with a 13-4 overall record. Oakes will also advance to the regional tourney as the number 2 seed from the district with a 16-2 overall record.

The Region 3 tournament is set for November 10, 12, and 14. Higher seeded teams will host opening round matches and semifinal matches. Championship match will be played at the higher seeded team also, if both number 1 seeds advance to the final, the match will be played at a neutral site.
