DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After a three set win Monday night at Fargo Shanley, Valley City did not have a lot of time to enjoy the win. TuesdaY they traveled to Devils Lake for another 2-point match in the standings, this time with the Firebirds.
The Hi-Liners came up with another straight set win, this one a bit easier than Monday, (25-13, 25-19, 25-18.
In the first set, after Devils Lake tied it at 3, the Hi-Liners scored four straight points to take a 7-3 lead and never looked back in a 25-13 win.
The second set was a bit more of a challenge. Neither team could pull away from the other. The set was tied six times, the last time was at 11. At that point, Valley City used a 7-2 run to open up a five point lead 18-13. The two teams would alternate points for most of the remainder of the set in Valley City’s 25-19 win.
In the final set, the Hi-Liners jumped out to a 7-1 lead. From that point on it was nearly even, 18-17 Valley City for a 25-18 win.
Lexi Leroux led the offense with 10 kills. Samantha Hatchr had six and Jadyn Dieterle added five with Peyton Pederson chipping in four. Dylann Diegel added 26 assists. Defensively, Hatcher had a team high 15 digs and Jocey Kriewald added 14.Peton Pederson had two blocks. At the service line, Pederson had three aces. Leroux, Hatcher and Diegel all had two.
Malayna Barendt and Karli Krogfoss led the Firebirds with six kills each. And Jenna Frehlich had 10 assists.
With the win, the Hi-Liners improve to 10-9 in the Eastern Dakota Conference an 10-11 overall. Devils Lake falls to 2-16 in the conference and 1-12 overall. With Shanley’s sweep of Grand Forks Central in a 2-point match. The Deacons stay in fifth place and the Hi-Liners are sixth with Fargo North close behind in seventh. Valley City and Fargo North meet on Tuesday November 3rd in the Hi-Liners regular season finale.
