FARGO, N.D. (Prairie Public Radio) – The three on-the-ballot candidates for Governor squared off in their only debate Wednesday night.
The debate was aired on Prairie Public’s radio and television services. It was co-sponsored by AARP.
One of the subjects at last night’s Governor’s debate was the Legacy Fund.
This comes after a public opinion survey was released showing most respondents want to see that fund invested in North Dakota.
Incumbent Governor Doug Burgum said while he might not support 100 percent of those funds being invested here, he would support use of Legacy funds for what he called “Legacy projects,” and he pointed to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library as an example.
Democratic candidate Shelley Lenz said she has an idea for some of that money – a $50 million state-owned meat packing plant.
Libertarian DuWayne Hendrickson suggested it might be used to eliminate property taxes.
The three candidates met for their only debate of the campaign season.
