Marilyn Marie Bourne was born in Eldora Iowa on July 12, 1946, the youngest and only daughter to Kenneth and Thelma (McConnell) Bourne.
She was brought up in education as a Union Whitten Cobra. In High school she played drums and basketball, worked at the grocery store, babysat, de-tasseled corn and was a telephone operator. After graduation she attended beauty school in Mason City where she became an award winning hairstylist.
Since the fourth grade she knew an upper classmen and athlete Wayne Teckenburg. On a weekend home their paths crossed and he asked her for a date. February 27, 1965 they went on their first date to a girls basketball game in Grundy Center. On their second date Wayne was talking about “when we’re married.” On July 31, 1965 they were united in marriage. They made their home in Whitten Iowa welcoming their three children, Julie, Jennifer and Mark.
In 1979, the Teckenburg’s moved to Jamestown ND. Marilyn altered her artistic outlet and left hair for flowers. She started her career as an award winning florist at Leaf and Shutter. Owning and operating Flowers Designed By US and Photo Center is where most people remember her. While the flowers and the photography satisfied her artistic side, her passion was taking care of others. After selling her business she started doing private home healthcare. She was so blessed by her clients and their families. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Iowa and North Dakota. Through her sorority she met many of her closest lifelong friends.
Marilyn had a strong and solid faith. She loved attending praise and worship services, the more music the better. She had church families at Temple Baptist, First Baptist, and since her move to Valley City in February, Connect Church.
On October 19, she was reunited with her husband Richard “Wayne” Teckenburg, her parents Kenneth and Thelma, brothers Donald Dean and Larry, her mother in law Lois, son in law Jerry, grandson Jakob and nieces, Jill and Kris.
Left with the many memories she was so fond of making are her daughters, Julie Hieggelkie and Jennifer Bourne-Hastings (Rich), and her son Mark (Lisa) Teckenburg. Her absolute prides and joy her grandkids, Kaley (Nick) Machart, Kelsey Shaw, Josh Shaw, Jaydon Teckenburg, Jace Wimer, Jake and Grace Hastings, Olivia, Carson, Ella and Grace Teckenburg and her Great Grandkids, Jamison, Colton, Avery, Mason, Liam, Blake and her little Miss Adeline “Addie.” Her lifelong friends, many nieces and nephews, and all the littles she was “The great something Marilyn” to.
