MANDAN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School Student Congress team continued their 2020 competitive season on Monday, October 12th at the Baymont Inn and Suites in Mandan, ND. Student Congress is formal legislative debate in which students debate resolutions and bills that were written by students. Students research, write speeches, prepare for questions, and learn the fundamentals of responsible rhetoric.

The Hi-Liners took 18 students to the second tournament. 4 of those 18 speakers were named superior speakers or placed in their chamber. Lillian Kiefert was elected by her peers to be the presiding officer over a combined Senate/House 1 Chambers.  Abby Redfearn was elected by her peers to be the presiding officer over House 4.

House 2: Ari Abrahamson (5th)
House 4: Abby Redfearn (P.O.)
House 5: Carter Hass (SS), Naomi Hanson (SS)
The Hi-Liner Student Congress Coach is coached by head coach, Nick Lee, and Assistant Coach, Abby Ingstad. The next tournament for the VCHS Student Congress team is the State Tournament. It is scheduled to be held, November 5th at the State Capitol in Bismarck, ND
