JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsdakota.com) – Facing a tough two match stretch, the Jamestown Blue Jays (5-2) volleyball team dropped their second consecutive match Tuesday against Mandan 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22).
The first set was troublesome for Jamestown. A lot of unforced errors for Jamestown at the service line and on the attack led to their demise in the opener. While Jamestown struggled Mandan was clicking on all cylinders and went on a 7-0 spurt led by junior LaReena Mosbrucker’s four kills. Mandan took the opener 25-16.
Through ten points in the second set, it appeared Jamestown was facing a rout as the Blue Jays fell behind 8-2. But Jamestown turned the ship around and used a 9-2 run of their to get back into it and eventually take the second set 25-19.
Sets three and four both went to the Mandan Braves in close contests.
The fourth set became real dicey for Mandan. After going up 24-18, Jamestown rattled off four points in a row thanks to three Ella Roaldson kills to tighten the final frame. Mandan would survive after Katie Falk hit one into the net to give Mandan a 25-22 decisive win.
Grace Hegerle led the Blue Jays with 12 kills, Falk had nine and Roaldson had eight. Mandan’s leaders were Taylor Leingang and Morgan Sheldon each with 10 kills.
