JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several members of the public including representatives of Jamestown students and athletics came before the school board to air concerns of the current district plan for the pandemic.
Annetta Tweten began the conversation, pointing out there has been no parent involvement in the students and their hybrid learning plan.
Tweten went on to air concerns about homecoming and the elimination of events and activities.
Volleyball Coach Sara Hegerle also spoke, touching on the mental health of the students.
The board also heard from Brenda Kirkeby and Shannon Hagan.
While no action could be taken on the information presented, later discussion was held regarding a possible input gathering meeting.
Board member Aaron Roberts stated he had concerns on the education and extracurricular activities as well.
Board member Robert Toso pointed out that there are schools across the state shut down because of COVID, adding that there are more concerns in the district.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Lech added that the issues and concerns that were brought forth during the meeting were warranted, stating that the district was experiencing “pandemic fatigue.”
The public was encouraged to continue bringing their issues and concerns to the board. School Board Vice President Dr. Heidi Larson added that they would always listen and take those matters under advisement.
The board voted to host an open forum while meeting COVID-19 guidelines and an additional survey and zoom forum sometime this fall.
