OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Garrett Meehl had a hand in four touchdowns and 17 points as Oakes improved to 3-0 on the season with a 49-14 win over Sargent County Friday night in key Region 1 matchup.

Meehl rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead the Tornadoes. The senior quarterback did not throw a incompletion. He was 11 for 11 for 142 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 30 yards and 5 yards to fellow senior Ashton Biesterfeld. Meehl added 82 yards on the ground on seven carries and touchdown runs of four and seven yards, both in the first half when Oakes built a 35-0 lead.

David Schmitz just missed the century mark on the ground with 99 yards on 15 carries. He had two first half touchdowns with runs of 23 and 20. Marc Seyer added 37 yards on the ground on three carries and freshman Mario Garza capped the scoring for Oakes with a 6 yard td run in the third quarter.

Biesterfeld ended the game with 86 yards receiving on five catches. Joey Heim caught three passes for 37 yards.

Sargent County got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 20 td reception from Avery McFarland to Logan Decker. Nicholas Hansen had a 53 yard run to finish the scoring.

Oakes, now 3-0 on the season and ranked fourth in the latest Class A poll, will travel to Lisbon to face the undefeated and third ranked Broncos next Friday night. Lisbon improved to 4-0 with a 54-0 win over Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm.
