JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsdakota.com) – Jamestown and Century were combined 9-0 with 27 straight sets won between the two teams on the volleyball court headed into their showdown Tuesday night.

Coming out of the showdown, Century (5-0) remained undefeated with a five set victory over Jamestown (5-1).

After Century knocked Jamestown out of the West Region tournament last year, at Jerry Meyer Arena in Jamestown, the Jays came out Tuesday evening and took the first set 25-20 and scored the eight of the final nine points to go up 1-0.

Set two swung the momentum drastically in favor of Century. The Patriots ran away with the 2nd set 25-15. That same pattern followed in the 3rd and 4th sets. Jamestown took a 2-1 lead after taking the third 25-18 before Century forced a game 5 with a 25-19 set four win.

The top two teams in the West came down to the a winner take all set five. Century took a 12-8 lead but coming off a Coach Hegerle timeout, Jamestown rattled off three in a row to cut the deficit to one. With the score 12-11, an epic, long rally ensued that saw multiple near points before Jamestown’s Katie Falk missed her attack to give Century a 13-11 lead. Century scored the next two and secured a robust win.

Leading all players was Century’s Logan Nissley with 16 kills. Julia Fitterer added 11.

Jamestown was lead by Ella Roaldson for the third straight match. Roaldson racked up 14 kills while Hunter Peterson had eight, and Grace Hegerle and Falk each had seven.

Looking to rebound, Jamestown will take the next week off and face Mandan Tuesday, September 22.
