Carrington, N.D. (Newsdakota.com)–The Carrington Cardinals scored on a 10 yard touchdown run from Michael Clifton with 4:04 to play in the game and added a 2 point pass from Lucas Hendrickson to Clifton, giving the Cards a 24-20 lead. Grafton would answer with 1:48 to play on a 11 yard TD run from Esgar Rios giving the Spoilers the lead at 26-24. Carrington advanced back into Spoiler territory but an interception by Damon Reyes clinched the victory with a 82 yard return for a TD with 16 seconds to go. Leading 34-24, the Spoilers added another pick six with 1 second remaining as Stevan Garza went 50 yards on  his interception return giving Grafton a 41-24 victory.

Grafton opened the game with an 80 yard TD drive capped with an 26 yard pass from Landon Woinarowicz to Stevan Garza. The drive chewed up 7 minutes and 28 seconds. Carrington answered on there first drive of the night, scoring on the first play of the second quarter on a Clifton 10 yard run. Clifton added a 2 point conversion run giving Carrington a 8-6 lead which lasted until the final 9 seconds of the first half. Robert Parsons III connected with Justin Garza on a 20 yard TD pass giving the Spoilers a 12-8 halftime lead.

Esgar Rios had 15 carries for 61 yards and a TD to pace the Grafton rushing attack. The Spoilers ran for a total of 143 yards on 37 attempts. Parsons III went 6-12 passing (116 yards) with 1 TD pass. Woinarowicz went 3-8 for 57 yards and 2 TD passes. Justin Garza caught 3 passes for 75 yards and a score and Stevan Garza added 2 catches for 34 yards and 2 scores.

Clifton paced Carringtons running game with a game high 95 yards on 13 carries and 2 scores. Clifton also had a pair of receptions for 27 yards. Carrington rushed for 150 total yards and passed for 71 yards.

Carrington falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Region 2 and Grafton improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 2. The Cardinals will host Harvey-Wells County next Friday night at 7:00 P.M. and a 6:30 pregame on AM 1600 KDAK THE CARDINAL, FM 100.1, and newsdakota.com
