JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A project made entirely possible by grants and donations, including the lead donation from Shirey R. Meidinger, made one more step towards completion Wednesday afternoon.
Leaders with the Two Rivers Activity Center, City of Jamestown, Zerrberg Architects, and more attended a short program thanking those who made the project possible.
Rachel Liechty, campaign co-chair, welcomed the group and thanked everyone responsible for getting them to this point in the project.
Jamestown Parks & Recreation Board of Commissioners Chair Mindi Schmitz then acknowledge all the different departments who have had a hand in the process of bidding and building the splash park.
Dr. Ken McDougal, a friend and representative of Shirley Meidinger, spoke on her behalf and how the project displayed the giving nature of Shirley and her late husband, who have been long-time Jamestown residents.
TRAC Facilities Manager Amy Walters then gave her remarks, adding that they were still just short of their goal of raising $3 million for the splash park.
The site will include a bath house, water features to include three elevated activity stations with four slides, multiple fountains, and splash zones. There will also be a multi-use court for basketball and pickle ball as well as sand volleyball courts and bocce fields. There will also be a large grass space for free play.
During a community input meeting on Phase II of TRAC, it was learned that the cost to build an outdoor pool would be $3.8 million compared to $3 million for a splash deck. An outdoor pool has not been ruled out, but would be considered sometime in the future. For more information, click here.
The splash deck has an estimated completion date of Spring 2021.
