(NewsDakota.com) Two teams moved closer to their chance at at State Class B Babe Ruth Baseball title, while two other teams said farewell for the season. 

Two area teams are still alive; Carrington was able to recover from their loss to Kindred in the opening round Friday to a 5-3 victory against Beulah on Saturday morning. Brady Smith was the winning pitcher, going four and two thirds innings, and allowing two earned runs on five hits. Easton Paeper earned the save, and also had two runs, a double and a single. Beulah’s season came to a close.

Oakes also advanced by winning their second consective win in the tournament; a 2-1 win against Casselton to improve to 24-0 on the season. Jon Tyre was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits, while striking out five. Michael Kelly had a double, and Ethan Zetocha and Bryce Meehl were the only runners Oakes brought across the plate; with both in the first innning.

In other games, Hatton defeated Velva 4-2 to stay alive, and Kindred defeated Grafton 3-1. 

Sunday’s action sees in loser out play, with Carrington and Casselton at noon, followed by Hatton and Grafton at 2:30. The lone winner’s bracket game is at 5 with Oakes and Kindred. Carrington baseball can be heard on KDAK-AM 1600, and Oakes games can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220.
