BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown woman in her 70s is one of the latest to die with COVID-19 in North Dakota.
The woman also had underlying health conditions, like the vast majority of North Dakotans who have succumbed to the illness.
The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) reports that as of Monday, August 10th, there have been 117 new cases of COVID-19. To date, there are now 1,166 North Dakotans known to be infected with the virus, making it the highest point of the pandemic for the state.
“113 North Dakotans have died from the illness, including 76 residents of Cass County, which includes Fargo and West Fargo,” the NDDoH reports. “Sixty-seven of the deaths have come in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. There are still four deaths that remain in a ‘presumed positive’ category, which means a medical professional determined that COVID-19 was a cause of death but the person was not tested for the illness while he or she was alive.”
Twenty-three counties reported at least one case Monday, including many small, rural counties. There are now 48 residents hospitalized with the illness, up one from Sunday.
About 2.6% of the 4,590 test results announced Monday came back positive, but 6% of residents tested for the first time received a positive result.
