KINDRED, N.D. (newsdakota.com) – A 4-0 perfect tournament run was capped off Tuesday afternoon as the LaMoure A’s won their 2nd state title in the last three years defeating the Langdon Eagles 10-1.
Following a day off, LaMoure was rested and came out swinging in the 1st inning. Lead off hitter Tate Mart and number two hitter Connor Johnson (both guys were stellar all tournament long) began the game with back-to-back singles to set the tone for the game. Both guys scored and LaMoure added on in the opening frame. The bottom four batters in the lineup all reached resulting in three more runs scoring. After just one, LaMoure had a 5-0 lead.
While the A’s offense lit up the scoreboard, starting pitcher Landon Piehl held Langdon to just a single tally on a pair of hits through five innings. Prior to Tuesday’s championship, the Eagles recorded at least ten hits in all four games at the State Tournament. If not for reaching 95 pitches, Piehl may have pitched past the 5th inning.
Even when Langdon found the scoreboard in the 4th inning, LaMoure answered right back.
LaMoure didn’t stop there. Piehl hit a sacrifice fly after Langdon starter Mason Romfo balked to make it 8-1 after four innings.
In the 5th inning LaMoure had a chance to win. The A’s went up 9-1 after Tate Mart collected another RBI.
Next, Potts grounded out to make it 10-1, but the A’s failed to score that decisive 11th run. Instead the game went to the 7th inning when Johnson slammed the door on a 2020 State Championship.
There were seven different A’s batters (Mart, Potts, Piehl, Anthony Hanson, Max Musland, Gunner Thielges and CJ Ness) to record at least one RBI.
Congratulations to the LaMoure A’s on their 2020 Class B Babe Ruth State Championship win!
