VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – There was uncertainty several months ago as to whether or not there would be any summer baseball. In May the American Legion shut down its season all over the country. So the questions for some towns was “what do we do now”. Shortly after the American Legion made its decision, Babe Ruth said we are going to have a season. And games began in late May. Today, the 202 Class A Senior Babe Ruth State Tournament begins at Charlie Brown Field in Valley City.

Valley City was set to host the Class A American Legion State tournament, but the National Office took care of that when they called off the season. But a state tournament is in Valley City and it should be a dandy.

Four teams from the East Region and four teams from the West Region will converge on Charlie Brown Field this week. And it all starts today at 10am.

The final game of the day has the West Region Champ Jamestown Eagles facing the host Valley City Royals. These two teams met on July 7th at Jack Brown Stadium in the Jamestown. The Eagles won that game 6-2. But both teams sat most of their regulars and Royals Head Coach Chase Carpenter says today’s game will see two different teams.

The Royals come in 21-12 on the season. They were 1-2 at last week’s East Region Tournament in Fargo.

The Eagles are 24-5. They won the West Region last week in their home ballpark, Jack Brown Stadium. Eagle Head Coach Sam Joseph says the key today is simple.

First pitch for the Eagles and Royals game is at 7:00pm, pregame is at 6:40 and can be heard on 1490AM/96.3 FM KOVC and on Jamestown 107.1. Also all 14 games of the state tournament will be video streamed live on newsdakota.com.
