JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has approved to move forward with upgrading the server and software for the city’s outdoor warning sirens.

Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist reports that there’s been little city dollars put into the siren system over nearly 20 years.

Bergquist added that overtime, software becomes obsolete. And because the sirens run on an outdated software:

Bergquist says all maintenance and installation was done locally. He says the dispatch center always activates the sirens when they’re needed.

Bergquist says the cost to upgrade the software from a Windows based system to Linux would cost around $12,170 with the city share being $10,431.43 and the County portion being $1,738.57.

The City unanimously approved their portion of the project.
