JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department is warning the public of a new Social Security scam making the rounds.

“People here in town are getting phone calls from what is said to be the Social Security Administration,” the department states. “These calls are scams.”

Police say SSA will not call you and tell you that you need to get prepaid cash cards to take care of the fraudulent activity that they claim is happening.

“They do not operate this way,” JPD says. “Do not withdraw money from your account. Do not give them your bank account information. Do not purchase prepaid cards from Walmart and give them the information about those, and do not wire money to them. We know that many of you have received these calls.”

If you have given these people money call the dispatch center and report it. If you have questions, call 701-252-1000.
