JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A proposed project in Jamestown would make it one of the top tourist destinations in North Dakota if completed.
Brian Lunde, a Jamestown resident, took it upon himself to hire Apogee Attractions to develop a theme and cultural park. In 2019, Lunde became interested in finding a way to improve the Frontier Village. This led him to hiring Apogee Attractions of Porter Ranch, California. The company has a history of planning attractions including places like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.
The proposal for Buffalo City Park would include building an attraction that focuses around the history of the bison with a planned Bison Discover Center, Dakota Corral for children, Dakota Lands Pavilion, Gondola and Enhanced Dakota Thunder, Buffalo City Amphitheater, Bison Ranch BBQ, Bison Mall, Tatanka Lodge, and more.
With the proposal in hand, Lunde set out to meet with Governor Doug Burgum and his team with a presentation to help fund the large project.
Lunde says the meeting took an hour and a half and says it appears they are all onboard for this project. He says the proposed plan had to be put together before approaching the state for funding the project.
In meeting with the Governor and his staff, Lunde says everyone appeared to be in agreement at what this attraction would bring to Jamestown and North Dakota.
As far as Lunde’s role in the project, he says it’s just answering the Governor’s call for something such as this to be built in North Dakota.
While not much more information is available on the project, Lunde says they’ll continue moving forward with the process of getting support from area entities and officials. The proposed project would be funded using the Legacy Fund.
Both Jamestown City Council and Stutsman County Commission have approved to conduct a feasibility study for the project.
