(NewsDakota.com) After a suspension of play due to rain, and a relocation of the second game of the North Dakota Class B Section 2 American Legion Baseball Championship, the LaMoure Post 19 team captured their sixth Section 2 title in seven years on Sunday; defeating the 2011 Champion Lisbon Post 7 6-5 at Sandager Park.
The game resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning with the game tied at five runs apiece, and LaMoure struck first in the sixth inning on a suicide squeeze from Beau Diegal that scored Jared Meiklejohn. Brady Theilges took the hill for Post 19 and retired the first six batters that he faced until Hunter Mairs reached on a leadoff single in the sixth. However, Mairs was doubled off after his teammate Wyatt Aberle popped up a bunt attempt. Post 7 had only one other runner reach; Derek Lyons in the seventh, but was stranded at first to end the game as Trent Toso struck out.
Theilges was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out one through four innings. Toso took the loss, going three innings and striking out six.
Post 19 head coach J.R. Theilges spoke after the game, and was more than pleased with his team’s performance in the tournament, and was looking forward to hosting and competing in the State Tournament.
Lisbon will be the Section 2 representative, and play against the Section 4 Champion Grafton at 1:30 on Wednesday. LaMoure, the host team, plays the Section 6 Champion at 7:30. Coverage of all Post 7 and 19 games throughout the tournament can be heard on Sunny 98.3 FM and NewsDakota.com.
