JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee held discussion on the new proposal from the Jamestown Community Corrections (JCC) program Thursday.

Currently, the city remains under the original contract with the program, which expired in 2019.

Director Sarah Frohlich says the agreement with the city would differ from the one with the county based on the amount of hours they have utilized with the program.

The city would provide $1,000 per month to the program. If approved, the new contract would go through December, 31st, 2021. The committee unanimously approved.

In other committee business, City Assessor Jamison Veil brought forth the request to extend the Jamestown Renaissance Zone District incentives from the North Dakota Department of Commerce.

Veil added that in the past five years of utilizing the Renaissance Zone District incentives, 42 projects have applied for the incentives, and 25 received their incentives.

For those 25, taxable value on those properties was around $81,500. Since they’ve been completed, the taxable value has increased to $441,600.

The committee unanimously agreed to apply for the five year extension.

The committee later discussed a request to allow chickens to be kept within the city limits. Councilmember Dave Steele said there is currently an ordinance that does allow this.

City Building Inspector Tom Blackmore added that there were some other guidelines that had to be met.

The committee moved to have discussion on the item during their July council meeting.
