JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A mass testing event for Coronavirus, or COVID-19, will be held in Jamestown on Thursday, June 18th at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds.
The mass testing comes from Central Valley Health District in partnership with the North Dakota Department of Health, North Dakota National Guard, and local health and safety leaders. Unit Administrator Robin Iszler says appointments are not required.
Iszler added there will be no cost or health insurance needed for the event. They ask that those wanting to test take the online screening questionnaire in advance, which can be found at testreg.nd.gov.
Completing the questionnaire does not guarantee a test.
Iszler says testing will be conducted with oral swabs and in drive-up only, where those being tested stay in their vehicle. Those with positive results will be notified by phone within 24 to 72 hours. Negative results will be notified within 72 hours.
There will be no antibody testing conducted.
Jennifer Schmidt, Epidemiologist for the NDDOH, says anyone can be tested. She added that those who are asymptomatic and are tested with no symptoms will come back positive. She added that 30% of all COVID-19 cases in North Dakota have been asymptomatic
Once identified, Schmidt says they’ll then get information on close contacts with that individual.
Schmidt says they’re seeing those who have been tested negative feeling like they can return to their normal routines, but says quarantine is still the most effective tool to stop the spread of the disease.
She added that testing negative from the mass testing is no guarantee you won’t test positive the following day.
