JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It had been 77 days since the last local sports event for Jamestown. That’s when the Blue Jays beat Devils Lake in the quarterfinals of the State Boys Class A basketball tournament 71-54. Less than 24 hours later, the rest of the tournament was postponed, a month and a half later it was canceled.

Thursday night local sports was back as the Jamestown Eagles played a doubleheader with the Dickinson Roughriders in Senior Babe Ruth baseball. The two teams split the doubleheader with Dickinson taking the opener 8-2 and Jamestown the second game 9-5.

 

GAME 1 Dickinson 8, Jamestown 2

Three Dickinson hurlers combined to allow just two Jamestown hits and one unearned run. Chris Erickson had the first hit, a single in the bottom of the first. Michael Mahoney would get the second hit, a run scoring single in the home half of the sixth. Mahoney would score one batter later on an error by Roughriders third basemen Troy Berg.

Carson Weiler was the hitting hero for Dickinson with two hits, two runs scored and an rbi. Isaac Daley drove in to runs with a two-run home run in the sixth to make it 5-0 Dickinson. It wasa laser shot over the right field wall.

GAME 2 Jamestown 9, Dickinson 5

Tom Falk had two doubles, scored two runs and drove in a run as the Eagles scored three runs in the second, third and fourth innings for the win. Seven different Eagles had hits.

Connor Hoyt picked up the win tossing four shutout innings. He allowed four hits with a walk and two strike outs.

Dickinson made tings interesting when they scored five runs in the last three innings. Jaren Hughelen, who had a two run double in the fifth, struckout with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Eagles are now 1-1on the season and will host the Fargo Comets on Wednesday June 3rd at Jack Brown Stadium.
