VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County is in the “high” category on the Fire index what this means is that all dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily. Unattended brush and campfires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short-distance spotting is common. High-intensity burning may develop on slopes or in concentrations of fine fuels. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully.

Barnes County Emergency Manager Sue Lloyd said some Roads in Barnes County are closed and impassable and very soft making it hard if not impossible for fire trucks, fire crews and First Responders to get to grass or structure fires if they needed to respond.

She said if citizens are going to burn they are urged to monitor the fire closely and not leave their burn unattended. If residents are going to burn please call the controlled burn in to the Barnes County Dispatch Center 845-8181 and let them know as soon as possible.
