JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School District introduced their hot lunch meals program immediately following the Governor’s announcement that schools would be closed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech reports that in the first 9 days of providing the meals to children in the community, the district packaged around 3,650 meals, averaging around 405 meals per day.

Lech added that this program is free for any child in the community.

Dr. Lech says they continue to see increases in the meal program. Meals are provided at different drop-off sites including Jamestown Middle School, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington, and Louis L’Amour.

He says they’re getting a lot of meals out there for area children, but says they can support a lot more.

Lech thanked Shelley Mack and her team of food service workers for the job they’ve done in providing the healthy meals.

“They have needed to pivot to a new way to provide the meals, but they’re doing a wonderful job,” Lech added in his report.

Those who wish to schedule a meal pickup or delivery are asked to register online at www.jamestown.k12.nd.us/.
