BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Governor Doug Burgum says two individuals recently tested positive for coronavirus or COVID-19.

Governor Burgum said Tuesday, they had the most tests for COVID-19 in the state with 74 tests performed. 72 of them were negative with two coming back positive

Burgum added that with the two new cases, both had a history of travel, meaning there has been no community spread of the virus in North Dakota.

The state has now tested individuals from 21 of the 53 North Dakota counties. A total of 223 have been tested with three coming back positive for the virus.

Governor Burgum believes that they will see the number of positive cases rise in the state.

State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte added that they were leaving the testing decisions up to local healthcare providers, but residents should be helping however they could by safe practices to prevent the spread of the virus.

Tufte says to call ahead before venturing into a healthcare facility.

Symptoms of COVID-19 in people who have been exposed can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying. Individuals who think they may have COVID-19 but have minor symptoms should self-isolate at home.
