GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The beginning of the quarterfinals game against Central Cass could not have been more different than the start of the consolation game against Hettinger-Scranton for the LaMoure-Litchville/Marion Loboes.
LLM came out swinging today and jumped out to a 10 point lead after one and a 25 point lead at the half. Eventually the Loboes cruised to a 54-43 victory.
In the opening half LLM shot 50 percent from the floor, but it was the defense that propelled the Loboes to the halftime lead. LLM’s disruptive defense held Hettinger-Scranton to just two free throws made in the 2nd quarter. The two lone points in the second quarter were apart of a near 10 minute scoring drought for Hettinger-Scranton.
Senior Ellie Holen was back to her normal self as well. Holen scored 17 points on 7-10 with three 3’s in the opening half to lead the Loboes. After the first half, Hettinger-Scranton tallied single digit scoring in four of its first six quarters in the 2020 Class B State Tournament.
Hettinger-Scranton wound up getting some shots in in the second half. The Nighthawks closed the game on a 20-9 run but it was too little, too late. Hettinger-Scranton was led by Sam Oase with 20 points and 15 of those in the second half.
Looking forward to tomorrow now, LLM will play for 5th place at 2:45 against Rugby. Coverage can be heard on Q101.1 and on newsdakota.com. Hettinger-Scranton will play in the 7th place game and look for its first win of the tourney against Shiloh Christian at 1:00.
