CARRINGTON, N.D. (CHI St. Alexius) – CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington has been named a 2020 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

This is the eighth time for CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington to receive the annual award, which honors rural hospital performance. The award is determined by the results of iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength INDEX®, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2020.

“It is an honor to be recognized eight out of ten years as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in the United States,” comments Mariann Doeling, President of CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington. “It demonstrates our staff’s commitment to provide continuous high quality, safe patient care to our community,” adds Doeling, “It takes teamwork from our dedicated medical staff, nursing, imaging, lab and nutritional services to make this happen. That teamwork extends to include many additional office staff, housekeepers, maintenance, and administration who work behind the scenes to support our patient care teams.”

Jeff Drop, CommonSpirit Health Senior Vice President of the Fargo Division which oversees numerous Critical Access Hospitals in North Dakota and Minnesota commented “I’m extremely proud and pleased of all our employees. To earn this honor is a true sign of each individual’s dedication and compassion to not only our patients and the communities that we serve but the comradery that they have amongst each other, working side by side to make it happen.”

Based entirely on publicly available data, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Utilizing 50 independent indicators, the INDEX assesses performance across eight pillars of performance that span market-, value- and finance-based categories. Hospitals recognized as a Top 100 facility had one of the 100 highest overall scores among all Critical Access Hospitals nationally.

“The Top 100 Critical Access Hospital award program reminds us that rural providers haven’t lost touch with their mission and are committed to delivering better quality, better outcomes and better patient satisfaction. It’s a pleasure to be able to not only recognize this year’s recipients, but our larger group of top 100 alumni as we celebrate 10 years of The Hospital Strength INDEX,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington is among several CommonSpirit Health owned or managed facilities in North Dakota receiving the 2020 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital recognition. Others include: CHI Lisbon Health, CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake, Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center in Elgin, Linton Hospital, and Wishek Community Hospital.
