(NewsDakota.com) – The next step of a proposed bio-refinery ethanol plant at the Spiritwood Energy Park has been delayed due to EPA approval issues.
Great River Energy has not received the Renewable Fuel Standards approval it needs from the Environmental Protection Agency. DeAnn Brunner with the Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation says they believe the delay is because of politics.
Great River Energy has been waiting for RFS approval before securing all the financing for the Dakota Spirit AgEnergy plant, which would utilize steam from Spiritwood Station to make corn-based ethanol.
If approval is not received soon, construction on the plant will likely be delayed until next year.
