JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The need for a ladder truck remains in Jamestown.

On Wednesday, the company Rosenbauer America stopped in Jamestown with one of their models on its way to New Town to show the Jamestown Fire Department as well as local dignitaries and the public what they could offer.

Brian Gaalswyk is a representative for Rosenbauer, which is considered one of the world’s three largest manufacturers of fire-service vehicles and firefighting equipment.

The city of Jamestown is currently without a ladder truck after the state supplied truck became inoperable. The cost to replace the truck for the community would be roughly $1 million.

Gaalswyk says they’re currently working on a proposal for what they can offer the city in regards of truck use and services.

Gaalswyk says the unit going to New Town was built entirely in Lyons, South Dakota, which is one of three campus operations Rosenbauer has in the U.S.

He said any specifications Jamestown may require in the way of service, they would be able to meet those demands.

The city is currently focused on a plan to raise funding for a new ladder truck, with one-third being paid by the city, one-third through donations and contributions, and the final one-third from the state.

Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther says the model brought in Wednesday was close to what they would like to have operating for their department.

Being a newer model, Reuther says it would of course be an upgrade over the previous ladder truck.

He added that with each passing day, the need for a ladder truck in Jamestown and surrounding communities including Spiritwood would be that much greater.
