JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball wrapped up their regular seasons on Saturday dropping match-ups with Concordia (NE) at Newman Arena.

WBB: #2 CUNE 76, Jimmies 66.

The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team gave No. 2 Concordia (Neb.) University all it could handle Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

Trailing by just four entering the final quarter, the Jimmies found themselves down by nine with 5:37 as the Bulldogs pulled away for a 76-66 win in the regular season finale for both teams.

Jamestown (16-14 overall, 9-13 Great Plains Athletic Conference) qualified for the league’s postseason tournament as the seventh seed and will travel to second seed Hastings (Neb.) on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal matchup.

UJ was held to only eight shots in the first quarter, but made four of them, including two three-pointers, to trail by just a bucket at 17-15 after one.

Concordia stretched their lead to nine with 3:37 before halftime only to have the Jimmies reel off five straight points to cut the lead to four.

Hannah DeMars (FR/Grand Rapids, MN) opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to make it 39-37. The Bulldogs countered with a 5-0 run of their own and Jamestown held serve, scoring six straight to trail by just one at the 3:54 mark.

The Bulldogs used a 9-0 run to take a ten-point lead with just under a minute before the end of the third. Back-to-back three-pointers by Kia Tower (FR/Bigfork, MN) and Emma Stoehr (JR/Woodbury, MN) made it 57-53 and set the stage for the closing frame.

Macy Nilsen (FR/Edina, MN) led UJ with a career-high 19 points. DeMars and Courtney Mosloski (SR/Fairmont, MN) both finished with 10. Mosloski and Noelle Josephson (SO/Ramsey, MN) grabbed six rebounds each while Tower and Stoehr both dished out three assists.

All five starters for Concordia (28-2, 21-1 GPAC) hit for double figures, led by Philly Lammers’ 18 points.

MBB: CUNE 101, Jimmies 92 OT.

Down by as many as 18 points in the second half, Concordia (Neb.) University rallied to take a three-point lead with 18 seconds left in regulation Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.

Terrell Alfred (SR/Orlando, FL)’s three-pointer with seven ticks on the clock tied the game at 90 and forced overtime.

However, it was all Concordia in the extra five minutes as the Bulldogs outscored Jamestown 11-2 to take a 101-92 win over the Jimmies.

Alfred led the Jimmies with 28 points, making 8-of-17 from beyond the arc. Isaiah Dobson (SR/Stillwater, MN) added 24 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Mason Walters (FR/Jamestown, ND) chipped in with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Jamestown (18-12, 9-11 Great Plains Athletic Conference) is the seventh seed in the GPAC Basketball Tournament and will travel to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday.

UJ led 29-17 at the 7:33 mark of the first half following an Alfred three-pointer. Back-to-back threes by Dobson gave the Jimmies 15-point leads at 43-28 and 46-31.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to single digits twice only to have Jamestown counter with baskets of their own. UJ had a 10-point lead as late as the 8:14 mark, but Concordia’s 11-2 run made it a one-point game just a little less than four minutes later.

Finally with 1:49 in the second half, Concordia took their first lead of the game since they went up 4-2 just over two minutes into the contest. That lasted all of 15 seconds as Dobson drained a three to put UJ back in front by a point.

The see-saw affair continued as the Bulldogs’ Brevin Sloup made all three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, then Concordia made another pair of foul shots to make it 90-87.

Sloup paced Concordia (21-9, 11-9 GPAC) with 28 points, one of five Bulldogs in double figures.
