JAMESTOWN (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High wrestling team made its first appearance at the state dual tournament since 2003 and did not disappoint. After knocking off EDC #1 seed on Thursday, they grabbed a third place finish defeating Bismarck Century.

The Jays edged Century 36-27 in the third place match. They avenged a 35-34 loss the first time the two teams met, when the Patriots won on new tie-breaking rules. The Jays end the season 16-7.

Bismarck High won both the team title and the dual title.

Jamestown did have one wrestler reach his goal of winning a state championship and that was Noah Braun. He took home the title at 152 defeating top-seed Brock Fettig of Bismarck High, 8-3. Braun ends his senior season 46-13.

The Blue Jays had eight other state place finishers for a total of nine, a new school record.

Pete Rasmussen defeated Noah Savageau of Bismarck 4-0 to take 5th at 106. Rasmussen was seeded sixth and ended the season with a 29-19 record. Aden Braun lost to Christian Tanefeu of Bismarck 11-2 in the championship at 113. Braun, the number two seed ends the season 34-7.

Talor Huebner slipped by Bennett Rogelstad 6-5 to take seventh at 120. Huebner finishes the season 30-25. Joel Bowman took home third at 126. He defeated Tyler Porter of West Fargo 9-1 in the third place match. Bowman, a fourth seed, ends the season 51-12.

Colton Mewes came in as a fifth seed at 138 and took home third with a 5-1 win over Preston Fettig of Bismarck. Fettig had beaten Mewes 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Mewes finishes 38-9. Unseeded Jackson Walters took seventh at 145 with a 10-3 win over Matthew Scheer of Bismarck St. Mary’s. Walters ends the season 29-19.

Johnny Browning took sixth at 170. He was pinned by Parker Vilandre of Devils Lake in the consolation final. He ends the season 23-8. Coty Huebner was a seventh seed at 182. He was injured one minute into his match with Junior Surpris of Fargo North in the third round of the consolation bracket and was a medical forfeit the next match to place eighth.

As a team, the Blue Jays score 136.0 points to finish fourth in the individual tourney.

Pete Rasmussen, Joel Bowman, Coton Mewes, Jackson Walters, Noah Braun, and Johnny Browning all wrestled above their seed. Meaning they finished higher than they were seeded coming in.

Larry Eslick, the head coach of the Blue Jays, was named the Class A Coach of the Year.
