BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With the season on the line, the Jamestown Blue Jays tallied seven goals against Bottineau/Rugby for the second time this season in a 7-4 win Friday morning.

The Blue Jays boys hockey team exploded out of the gates scoring twice within the first 3:30 of the game. So. Joe Cummings and Sr. Tommy Falk scored six seconds apart to put Jamestown on top right away.

Bottineau/Rugby’s hopes were kept alive by Jr. Ian Amsbaugh. After being shutout in their opener on Thursday, Amsbaugh scored all four goals for the Braves in the loss against Jamestown.

Amsbaugh wasn’t the only player on the ice to post multiple goals. In the second period, Jamestown Fr. Nolan Nenow scored two goals, and So. Hunter Nelson posted two goals on an empty netter in the third period.

Jamestown led by three goals headed to the final period. With a padded lead, it seemed as if Jamestown could cruise to a victory to keep the season alive, but the aforementioned Amsbaugh had other ideas. The West Region’s leading goal scorer found the back of the net 19 seconds into the third and again on a power play at the 8:32 mark to cut the deficit to one. Amsbaugh’s heroics weren’t enough as the Jays scored the last two to advance to Saturday afternoon.

A trip to the state tournament hangs in the balance for Jamestown at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon. Jamestown will wait to play the loser between Bismarck Century and Dickinson.
