VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grant Nelson had a two handed jam on an alley-oop pass from Michael Widmer ten seconds into the game and the tone was set for a 60-33 win for Devils Lake over Valley City in boys basketball Saturday at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

The Firebirds jumped out a 25-8 lead to start the game and never looked back as they win their fifth game in the last six.

Nelson finished with game highs 20 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Widmer had 15 points and six rebounds and Ben Heilman added eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Peyton Zaun led the Hi-Liners with nine points. Adam Bitz came off the bench to add eight, including the last six of the game for the Hi-Liners. Alex Thornton chipped in six points and a team high nine rebounds.

Valley City falls to 1-12 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 2-13 overall. Devils Lake is now 10-5 in the EDC and 10-6 overall.

The Hi-Liners are back home for two games next week when Fargo North and Grand Forks Central come to town on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
