VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time since 2016 and the second time in school history, the Valley City wrestling team goes undefeated against Eastern Dakota Conference teams. The Hi-Liners ended the EDC season 9-0 following a 42-26 win over West Fargo Tuesday night in West Fargo.
The Hi-Liners are 10-4 overall and will be the top seed out of the East for the state dual which begins February 20th in Fargo. The Hi-Liners will face either Jamestown or Bismarck Legacy in the the quarterfinals.
Tuesday night, the match started out with Koltyn Grebel picking up a tech fall at 4:45 with a 15-0 win at 106. Brother Koye won by fall at 1:51 at 113 pounds.
After a forfeit at 120, Bennett Rogelstad dropped a 12-4 decision to Tyler Porter at 126. Austin Rogelstad avenged his brother’s loss with a 13-4 at 132.
Evan Mielke and Tyson Hovland lost at 138 and 145 respectively to make the team score 21-11.
Ezra Hanse won 10-3 at 152 and Parker Larson won by fall at 160 to make it 30-11.
Broden Muske needed to win by tech fall or a fall to clinch the match for the Hi-Liners. Down 4-1 late in the first period. Spencer LeDoux rolled Muske seemingly to set up for a pin and Muske rolled out of that into a reversal and a pin of his own for the win at 1:38. That made in 36-11 Hi-Liners and it was all academic from there.
After a forfeit at 182 made it 36-17. Jonah Schuldheisz picked up a fall at 1:21 to make it 42-17.
Ben Anderson beat Jonathan Redfearn 8-1 at 220 and KC Ortiz pinned Austin Hearlson to make the final 42-26.
The Hi-Liners will wrap up the regular season with a triangular on Friday with Jamestown and Bismarck Legacy coming to town. For one of those two it will be a preview of the State Tournament because one of them will be the number 4 seed out of thew west and will face Valley City in the quarterfinals of the state dual.
After Friday, the Hi-Liners will get ready for the East Region meet which will be February 15 in Wahpeton.
