OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes boys (6-4) couldn’t slow down Edegley/Kulm/Montpelier’s (8-2) upperclassmen duo of Cale Mathern and Alex Huber in a 61-45 loss.
Mathern and Huber combined for as many points as Oakes had as a team (45).
Starting the game and beginning the second half plagued the Tornadoes. In the odd quarters, Oakes was outscored 35-15. EKM also held a significant advantage in second chance points. The two statistical discrepancies formulated into EKM improving to 3-0 in district play. In doing so, EKM’s chances of capturing a one seed improved dramatically with wins over Ellendale and Oakes.
On the side of the black and orange, the top scoring trio of Steele Hansen, Garret Meehl and Ashton Biesterfeld combined for almost all of the points. The trio poured in 40 of the 45 while the rest of the team struggled to find a groove Friday night.
Oakes will regroup and welcome in a non-region team in Wyndmere/Lidgerwood Tuesday night. Coverage begins around 7:00 on KDDR and newsdakota.com.
