Gordon Kahl, Joan Kahl & Yorie Kahl (FBI)
CARRINGTON, N.D. (KFGO) – The widow of tax protester Gordon Kahl has died. Joan Kahl Britton was 93.
In 1983, Gordon Kahl, a leader of the “Posse Comitatus,” was involved in a shootout with law enforcement near Medina. U.S. Marshal Kenneth Muir and Deputy Marshal Bob Cheshire were killed.
Kahl was eventually tracked down during a nationwide manhunt. He was shot and killed in a confrontation with law enforcement in Arkansas.
Mrs. Kahl was charged, but acquitted of harboring a fugitive and conspiracy. The couple’s son, Yorie Kahl, along with Scott Faul, are serving life sentences for murder.
Mrs. Kahl was from rural Heaton, N.D. She died Thursday at a nursing home in Carrington.
