VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Number one versus number two in the east. Ten ranked wrestlers. Number four in the state versus number six. And a combined record of 12-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 13-4 overall. It had the makings for a great dual. But the sixth ranked Valley City Hi-Liners flexed their muscles and came away with a 42-18 win over Devils Lake, the number four team in the state.

The Hi-Liners dominated the first ten weights, winning nine. Koye Grebel picked up a tech fall at 106 with a 19-4 win.

In a matchup of two ranked wrestlers, number four Ethan Miller and number six Ethan Sprenger. Miller came away with a 6-3.

Bennett Rogelstad won by fall at 120 in 1:46.

Isaiah Schuldheisz won a tough 3-2 decision at 126.

Brant Fisk, who is number  two in the state at 126, moved up to 132 and defeated Austen Rogelstad 14-9.

The the Hi-Liners would take the next six weights. Starting with Evan Meilke’s 11-7 win at 138.

Tyson Hovland, who was ranked for the first time this year at number five at 145, won by major decision 16-2.

Ezra Hanse starting a string of three straight pins with a win by fall at  152 in 114. Top ranked Parker Larson won by fall at 160 in 59. And Broden Muske won by fall at 170 in 3:44.

The Firebirds got the last four bouts, three by decision and one forfeit at heavyweight.

The win was the fourth straight dual win for the Hi-Liners and handed Devils Lake its first loss of the season.

Valley Improves to 8-4 overall and 7-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference.The Firebirds fal to 6-1 overall and in the conference.

Next up for the Hi-Liners, they will travel down to the Lisbon Storhaug Tourney this weekend.
