JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball team finally got their games in with Doane on Monday night after two postponements and started their big week with a pair of wins at Newman Arena.

Reserves played a key role for the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team Monday night against Doane (Neb.) at Harold Newman Arena.

Kia Tower (FR/Bigfork, MN), Mackensi Higlin (JR/Mandan, ND), and Courtney Mosloski (SR/Fairmont, MN) all scored in double figures and the Jimmie bench combined for 54 points in UJ’s 78-48 victory.

Tower scored a career-high 16 points to lead the way, followed by Higlin with 13 and Mosloski with 11. It was the third time in the last four games Tower has scored 14 or more after reaching double digits just twice in her first 15 games.

The Jimmie defense forced Doane into 31 turnovers and nine different players came up with 18 steals.

Jamestown led 20-15 after the first quarter and outscored the Tigers 22-4 in the second to lead 42-19 at the break.

Doane got as close as 44-26 with 7:12 to play in the third quarter, but the Jimmies used an 11-0 run inside of a larger 13-3 run to stretch the lead to 28 entering the fourth.

Grace Benz (SO/Steele, ND) finished with seven points and five rebounds while Hannah DeMars (FR/Grand Rapids, MN) added seven points and five steals.

The Tigers (1-17 overall, 0-13 Great Plains Athletic Conference) were led by Sydney Roth’s 12 points and a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds from Haylee Heits.

UJ (12-7, 6-6 GPAC) travels to Sioux Center, Iowa, on Thursday to face Dordt University at 6 p.m.

MBB: Jimmies 81, Doane 70.

Boosted by a pair of big runs in the second half, the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team defeated Doane (Neb.) University 81-70 Monday night at Harold Newman Arena.

A 20-8 run to open the second half for the Jimmies turned a tie game at halftime into a 51-39 lead with 12:17 remaining.

The Tigers, not to be outdone, answered with an 18-7 run of their own over the next 3:30 to get within a point.

UJ responded by scoring 20 of the next 26 points, including three-pointers by Jack Talley (JR/Sioux Falls, SD), Terrell Alfred (SR/Orlando, FL), and Isaiah Dobson (SR/Stillwater, MN), to make it a 15-point lead with just over three minutes to play.

Dobson and Brady Birch (JR/Melrose, MN) each scored 16 for Jamestown (14-7 overall, 5-6 Great Plains Athletic Conference). Alfred and Talley both scored 12, and Brock Schrom (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) added 11.

Talley grabbed nine rebounds with Dobson and Jack Frazier (SR/Salem, OR) each passing out six assists.

Doane (5-16, 1-11 GPAC) was led by Miguel Lopez with 14 points and nine rebounds. The trio of Joe Burt, Isiah Sykes, and Jaxon Harre all fnished with 10.

Jamestown outshot Doane 52.6 percent to 42.9 percent. The Jimmies connected on 11 of their 23 three-point attempts while Doane made 9 of 23. The Jimmies had a 38-29 rebounding advantage and turnovers were even at 12.

Having won three of their last four games, UJ hits the road to face Dordt (Iowa) University Thursday at 8 p.m.
