OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A team that typically doesn’t take a ton of 3’s went off from outside the arc on Tuesday night in a 70-36 victory of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier.

In the first half alone, Oakes hit six long range shots, and Sadie Hansen had three of them.

EKM’s a team that struggles on offense but began the game by hitting some shots and staying with the foul plagued Oakes Tornadoes. In the first quarter, Oakes’ leading scorer Nicole Schmitz and freshman starter Laikyn Roney picked up two fouls each. The foul troubles came at an inopportune time with Oakes and Coach Brennan Hack dealing with the injury bug, but he has faith in all his players.

“I have total confidence in [the bench and reserve players]. We have, basically, two varsity teams and I have zero hesitations about going to some of our girls on our bench,” said Coach Hack.

Oakes had nine players score last night and Shayla Novak finished with a season high 11 points reinforcing Coach Hack’s point.

Hansen was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. EKM’s leading scorer was Sr. Jocelyn Madcke with 10 points.

With about a week off, Oakes looks to rest up and get healthy before its next game against Milnor/North Sargent on Monday.
